Can you consolidate your debt with “free government grants”?
If you’ve ever watched late-night television, you have probably seen the ads offering a book that will tell you how you can obtain thousands of dollars through “free government grants”. These ads claim that the Federal government and other agencies give away more than five hundred billion dollars per year, and all you need to do to obtain some of this money is to apply for it! In addition, the advertisers say that you may use the money for any purpose, such as a student loan, establishing a small business, debt consolidation , home improvement, or any luxury item you can imagine. All of this, the ads claim, can be yours if you just purchase their book by calling their toll-free number.
Five hundred billion dollars is certainly a lot of money. Can you really obtain free money from the Uncle Sam just by asking for it?
Well, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is too good to be true. Yes, there are such things as government grants and yes, there are organizations that give away money. Unfortunately, obtaining this money isn’t as easy as it’s made out to be by the guy wearing the suit with the question marks on it. Many organizations who give away grant money do so in order to achieve specific goals. If your quest is to grow crops in the desert, you may have luck in finding an organization that is seeking to end worldwide drought. You will have somewhat less luck in trying to find an organization that is interested in helping you fund your yacht, bailing you out of bankruptcy, or buying your dream vacation home on Lake Tahoe.
